TARGET: Increase Walking by 20% before 2020
Our Pedestrian Network Strategy is now open for public comment. So, what are your thoughts?
The strategy is built around making places more pedestrian friendly and encouraging people to walk to more places, more often. Improving the walking environment will benefit individuals, businesses, public transport and its users, as well as students too young to drive and the elderly or those with a disability.
Supporting and encouraging people to walk more, both for transport and recreation is both necessary and affordable. Efforts to encourage and increase walking also involve improving amenity of public spaces, making it easy and attractive for all in the community who need or want to walk.

The draft policy places a greater emphasis on community participation to ensure that community views are heard by the Council. Read the draft Community engagement policy, complete our quick poll and have your say in our Community Engagement discussion forums.
